HISTORY
Castles amid rolling landscapes, quiet hamlets and overgrown ruins. History is all around you. Locals still use the name Périgord. This is what this fairytale region was called before the 18th century. History revives before your eyes in the castles, bastides and prehistoric sites dating back as far as 150,000 years BC.
The Dordogne has few inhabitants. The impressive, varied landscape of rivers, forests and fields defines the atmosphere, along with the villages. Most villages and towns are still in authentic condition. These are sights in themselves and are among the most beautiful attractions of the Périgord Noir.

SHOPPING

In the villages, you will find charming shops selling regional products. Furthermore, many villages have markets on different days. And a visit to a Brocante is very typically French. Want a day of serious shopping in a real city? Then the historic city of Perigueux is a must. The city has an atmospheric, medieval city centre with narrow car-free streets. On the outskirts of this city you will find French and international chain shops.
